Derelict Croft House on Sale for £500K – Comes with Own Island!

It’s not the most inspiring piece of property photography – a crumbling pile of stones that were once a traditional Outer Hebridean croft house – and the half a million pound pricetag might seem a little steep to some, until you realise this unique home for sale comes with its own island!

The ruins of the small traditional structure overlook a sheltered bay, with stunning sea views across the water to the neighbouring islands of North and South Uist and Benbecula.

Property Comes With Beaches, Cliffs and Lochs

And the garden stretches to 970 acres of island, complete with white sandy beaches, rugged sea cliffs and lochs and moorlands.

The island of Wiay is one of a few fully private islands in this archipelago of remote Scottish communities, which has itself become a byword for all things out of the way and is on the market for £500,000.

Island for Sale – Stuff of Dreams

Currently with full planning permission to renovate the existing croft house site, the island for sale is the stuff of dreams for anyone who has fantasised about escaping from it all.

The property brochure reveals that the new owners will have the opportunity to watch the wonderful island wildlife, including otters and golden eagles – or may choose to indulge in sporting pursuits with stalking, shooting and fishing all on offer on the island.

The property may also appeal to history buffs, as it comprises a sea cave believes to have been used as a hideout by Bonnie Prince Charlie following his flight after the bloody Battle of Culloden in 1746.

Estate agents Bell Ingram, who have been entrusted with the sale, point out: “From most points on the island there are magical views…”
